Auspicious Persimmons and Swallows — Chinese Ink Scroll Painting
This traditional Chinese ink painting scroll features graceful swallows flying among ripening persimmons, a classic motif rich in cultural symbolism. Through the study of brush control, ink techniques, and colour layering, the participant explored the expressive qualities of Chinese painting while developing patience, observation, and artistic confidence.
The composition combines movement and balance, capturing the lively energy of the swallows alongside the abundance represented by the persimmons. The accompanying calligraphy, “好柿发生” (a play on words meaning “May good things happen”), reflects traditional Chinese wishes for happiness, success, and good fortune.

Surrounded by radiant sunflowers and the grandeur of distant mountains, a solitary cat lifts its gaze toward the light. The sunflowers, ever turning toward the sun, become symbols of resilience, optimism, and the instinctive desire to seek warmth even in uncertain times. The mountains stand as silent reminders of challenges yet to be overcome, while also representing the possibilities that lie beyond them.
